Visit to Brookhaven National Laboratory

During The Sulphur Institute's (TSI) Sulphur World Symposium, delegates will have a unique opportunity to visit Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL), located in Upton, New York.

The BNL research complex is 5000 acres and represents one of the United States' largest research and development facilities.

There is limited availability on a first-come, first-serve basis for the BNL tour, which is scheduled for the afternoon on Tuesday, April 12, 2011.

Transportation to BNL will depart the Waldorf Astoria Hotel at 12:30 and return in time for dinner.

The BNL tour will include an official greeting from the Director's Office, a drive-by tour of the entire complex with stops for visits to BNL's:

  • National Synchrotron Light Source (NSLS) — a large facility for examining materials at the molecular level used by companies and academic research institutes from around the world

  • New "NSLS II" — a U.S. one billion dollar facility (under construction, expected 2014 completion) that will be the largest and most powerful synchrotron in the world

  • Center for Functional Nanomaterials (CFN) — a brand new state-of-the-art facility for fabricating and studying basic and applied uses for nanomaterials

  • Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) — BNL's premier high-energy physics facility with a circumference of 2.4 miles that draws international scientists in search of how the universe appeared in the first moments following its creation

  • Environmental Sciences Department — where sulphur has been investigated and evaluated for beneficial uses as a construction material

To take advantage of this opportunity, be one of the first delegates to mark an "X" in the box on the symposium registration form indicating that you would like to go on this tour. Remember, space is limited and on a first-come, first-serve basis, so sign up today.
